Do What You Love and Enjoy It!

2014 will mark the 15th anniversary of the Bridge Film Festival.  In recognition of this milestone, the BFF is collecting interviews of our filmmaker alumni.

The first one is that of Pavin Kittikovit, The Friends' School '07, Hobart Tasmania, AU.  In 2006, Pavin entered and won a Judges' Choice Award for his narrative film, "Time."  The film is a thoughtful and beautifully crafted meditation on the relationship between a lonely adolescent who is yearning for a closer connection with his busy parent.

BFF - How did you learn about the Bridge Film Festival, and what was it like to enter your film?

PK - The Bridge Film Festival is a very special event. I remember that my teacher told me about entering my film in the Bridge Film Festival in New York. I didn't expected my project would be represented for the Friends' School, but it finally turned out really well. I was happy and pleased when people saw my film and got the message that I sent in the film.

BFF -  How did the experience of making a film for the BFF that required you to "depict Quaker values in action" influence your future story telling?

PK - As we know, Quakers [are] the Religious Society of Friends and my highest goal is to make film that [conveys] meaning to the audience. This film has to make new inspiration or affect the audience's [lives] in a positive way, [and] Quaker[ism] had influenced me to tell a story wisely from the inner [light.]

BFF - After graduating from The Friends' School, what college/university did you attend, and what did you study?

PK - After I finished High School in Hobart, Tasmania, I attended Sydney Film School for a Diploma course in 2008. Then in 2009, I moved to Melbourne to take a Bachelor Degree in Film and Television at Swinburne University of Technology.

BFF -  Which of your film projects are you most pleased with?

PK - I couldn't say which one I am most pleased with, because I love to try something new all the time and I enjoy every project, every film I make. I met new friends [in the] cast and crew, and it has [allowed] me to gain more experience.  Sometimes, [the film projects] can open my mind in different ways. So every time I work on my new projects, I always learn something new and it is very good for me.

BFF - What personal or professional projects are you currently working on?

PK - Currently, I'm working on a documentary project and it is going to be a TV series on air in Thailand very soon. I also have an editor role for some short films projects which I'm helping my friends with at the moment.

BFF - What are you plans for the future?

PK -After I graduated in 2011, I moved back to Bangkok to spend a year working on video production. My plans for the future will probably be taking a Master Degree in the United States or Europe.

BFF - What advice do you have for filmmakers currently attending a Friends school?

PK - Do what you love and enjoy it!
